I got a DM asking, “How can I get my child to say their foreign language phrases on their own?
👉 If you’re always the one initiating the foreign language or you just want your child to use their phrases more, check out the video and the game plan below to see what it looks like with my family:

🤝 First, get their buy-in. Ask them, “Which phrase could you see us using today?”—not which phrase do you WANT to learn. 😏 My kids don’t *want* to learn any. 😜
(Note, TalkBox.Mom boxes with workouts and sequences have a different fluency approach)
🎤 Second, practice with the native speaker audio by announcing the phrase in English and repeating with the audio. Usually, I ask my kids what the phrase means to make sure they understand, but this phrase… is already part of their life. You can tell how they choose it in Spanish—not English.
👀 Give your kids responsibilities with the audio in the TalkBox.Mom Companion App by giving them each a turn. It seems so small, but to them… they feel better when they get to help!
🤓😎 Next, let the fun begin! Have your kids come up with situations where your family uses the phrase, especially where the kids say it! But act on each idea if it’s not dangerous, illegal, or at the movie theaters 🤣 it was 8:00 am. You want them to feel comfortable sharing their ideas… even if they are a little 🥱, 🙄, or 🤔. This will help them solidify the connection, feel valued, and have fun!
As you practice that phrase each day, you’ll start seeing it become part of your life in those situations and more! Sometimes it happens immediately, and sometimes a ton of phrases suddenly start being used. You’re in it for the end game, so keep going!
💬 Yes, TalkBox.Mom is completely customizable for any age child because you choose the situations! You also decide how many phrases and how many situations you want to practice, so you decide how long the “lesson” is. 🤗
I’m so excited for your kids to start using phrases on their own! Leave a comment below with a phrase you want your kids to use today!
