High School Tests 2.0

If you’ve been with us for a while, you might know that some of our Boxes included written tests that asked questions about specific phrases from the Challenges. While these tests were well-intentioned, we realized they weren’t the best way to measure real progress or deliver the highest results with TalkBox.Mom.

Why? Because not every family practices the exact same phrases from the Boxes, and some families felt compelled to choose the phrases on the tests. Our program is designed to be flexible—so you can focus on the phrases that fit your daily life. Testing everyone on the same handful of phrases didn’t reflect that personalized experience. In fact, it could lead to frustration when the test asked about a phrase your family hadn’t practiced.

So we made a change. Now, instead of one-size-fits-all tests, you’re able to complete personalized exams for testing. Students can be tested on the exact phrases they’ve practiced with their family throughout the year. These optional tests include:

  • Comprehension – Listen to the phrase in the target language and say what it means in English.
  • Translation – Hear the phrase in English and say it in the target language.
  • Copywork (optional) – Hear the phrase and write it out.

This new approach helps your student demonstrate real, meaningful progress based on their actual experience with the language. It’s more accurate, more encouraging, and more aligned with how our program works best.

If you need help with how to use testing or how to grade the testing, you’ll find detailed guidance and grading suggestions in our High School Instructor’s Guide.
